Job Description

Primarily responsible for local, state and federal air quality compliance management for United’s California facilities. Work with local and state officials, including South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to monitor and influence regulatory changes that support our operations. Directs air quality compliance obligations at the LAX airport, SFO airport, Maintenance Base (SFMC), and other California airports, including programs associated with the LAX and SFMC Title V major source facility permits, federal and California greenhouse gas tracking and Cap and Trade regulations under AB32, Regional Clean Air Incentives Market (RECLAIM) NOx cap and trade program, federal/regional chemical tracking requirements, and other regional air district requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Train internal stakeholders in recordkeeping to ensure adequate process controls are maintained to demonstrate, and for United VP’s to certify compliance.
  • Prepares and implements, where necessary, specific training courses for targeted work areas.
  • Work with local and state officials, including SCAAQMD, BAAQMD, and CARB, to influence regulatory changes that support our operations by analyzing financial impacts and developing optimal regulatory outcomes and lobbying for them.
  • Conducts the required due diligence in preparation for required Title V and Aerospace NESHAP compliance status reports that are then signed by the Responsible Official.
  • Directs others to procure permit information and completes any recurrent and new reports associated with air.
  • Monitor new and existing local and state requirements impacting California Facilities throughout the state. Perform emission trending analysis and monitor overall emissions profile of facilities.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and point of contact for all CA air quality inspections/audits and process changes. Modify existing air permits as necessary based on facility changes.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences/policy, engineering, or related area
  • At least 4 – 6 years environmental experience with a focus in air emission issues
  • Knowledge of Clean Air Act and other environmental regulations aviation industry
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates strong people, planning and organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills including air mathematical modelling, WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK, and PowerPoint
