Spacex Internships – Scheduler, Launch Hardware in St. Petersburg

Website SpaceX

Job Description:

Launch Hardware’s mission is to upgrade Falcon/Dragon processing facilities, launch pads, and recovery vessels to make aircraft-like launch operations a reality. Our challenge is to execute many construction and fabrication projects in parallel at unrivaled speed. Robust pre-planning and constant change is the norm. As a Launch Hardware Scheduler, you will proactively identify blockers to progress, attack every problem with enthusiasm, and remove hurdles. You are a self-starter, team player, have the hunger to venture quickly into unknown areas and solve a problem. Aerospace experience is not required to be successful here – rather we look for inventive, motivated, collaborative people who respond rapidly to requests.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare daily work schedules, track work progress, update project critical path schedules, and advise leadership of needed adjustments to daily work activities
  • Ensure area access, tooling, and test equipment is properly scheduled to facilitate an efficient fabrication process
  • Utilize our factory scheduler application and other applicable tools to ensure work is scheduled and prioritized accurately and efficiently, and resources allocated appropriately
  • Find ways in which projects can be de-scoped or expedited in order to maintain schedule
  • Work across all departments to understand critical work requests ahead and behind targets to mitigate schedule impact risks
  • Provide tactical scheduling and strategic long range planning expertise to fabrication and/or maintenance teams
  • Verify parts are available and work instructions are complete prior to work start
  • Perform schedule baseline change control, collection and tracking performance, critical path analysis and variance analysis as required
  • Create and use tools using queries and Excel to improve time estimates, determine schedule risks and provide valuable insight to execution performance
  • Support department continuous improvement projects such as new process rollouts and standardization
  • Work with production supervisors and managers to establish success metrics and ensure all metrics-driven action requirements are completed
  • Provide daily visibility, weekly status, and monthly reviews on schedule performance
  • Support project engineering team as needed with limited project preparations, shop/field coordination, and more
  • Create, document, and enforce planning standards and document templates
  • Push/pull work into the shop to improve lead times, reduce stagnation, and meet schedule needs

Job Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours when needed; typical work hours are 50-55 hours per week; flexibility required
  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Skilled in strategic and critical thinking, decision-making, and relationship-building to improve efficiency and operational effectiveness
  • Willingness to work outdoors
  • Knowledge of MRP/ERP systems
  • Familiarity with lean principles and kaizen

Qualification & Experience:

  • 1+ years of supply chain or logistics experience
  • Project management experience in a fabrication shop and field environment
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, parts lists, and specifications
  • Data analysis skills in Excel, VBA, Python, and/or SQL
  • 3+ years of experience in project planning and estimating in an industrial environment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to thrive under deadline pressure
  • Experience with scheduling software such as MS Project or Smartsheet
  • Experience creating and managing dashboards using data visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI)
  • Knowledge of welding, machining, waterjet/plasma table cutting, quality inspection, high pressure fluids, instrumentation, controls, painting, and assembly
  • 5+ years of construction, production management, integrated operations, or project ownership experience
  • Positive, “can-do” attitude and ability to work in a very high paced environment
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 2+ years of professional experience in scheduling, project management or manufacturing
  • Ability to react quickly to change and over-communicate paths forward to multiple audiences
