Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

• Source, retain, and advise new and experienced vendors from a technical perspective
• Interpret technical drawings and documents with regards to manufacturing and fabrication processes to create accurate manufacturing planning
• Take extreme ownership in the delivery of the Starship production line
• Interact with numeric control (N/C) programmers, welders, machinists, shop personnel, outside suppliers and engineering owners to ensure flawless and timely execution projects
• Travel, as required, to domestic SpaceX sites as well as vendors to support fabrication and installation of projects
• Provide expertise with respect to cost, complexity, and timeline reduction during design phase and manage fabrication of critical tools
• Communicate status to engineering owners on regular basis and as requested, present and execute opportunities for design changes that would accelerate fabrication
• Design and lead the fabrication and sourcing of tooling aids, supporting equipment, and specialized hardware to enable rocket production
• Drive the manufacturing of projects and verify all critical information is provided to complete the project(s)
• Validate and ensure planning documents are maintained throughout the manufacturing cycle
• Collaborate with vehicle and tooling designers on better design for manufacturing
• Creatively work projects based on company priorities to meet and exceed aggressive need dates

Job Requirements:

• Understanding of basic structural analysis and solid mechanics as it relates to fabrication
• Strong analytical, computer, and written skills
• Strong understanding and application of GD&T
• Detailed knowledge of Siemens NC or similar CAD and PLM packages
• Knowledge of 3, 4 & 5 axis CNC milling, welding, waterjet programming, tooling fabrication and assembly
• Positive, “can-do” attitude and ability to work in a very fast paced environment
• Proactive, self-starter attitude and ability to own on projects from womb to tomb
• Mechanically inclined, proficient with all types of hand tools
• Project management experience in fabrication shop environment
• Comfortable interacting daily with design engineers as well as shop floor technicians
• Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, parts lists, and specifications

Qualification & Experience:

• Experience with Unigraphics NX and Teamcenter CAD and PLM systems
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering
• Experience in a shop fabrication or manufacturing environment
• 2+ years of manufacturing design experience (student project team and internship experience qualifies)
• 1+ years of tooling manufacturing experience within the aerospace, automotive or metal fabrication industries
